Abstract:
In my considerations on the foundation of rhetoric in the ancient doctrine of the art, I would like to show how today's education can contribute to young people's self-awareness of their social status. They can learn to improve this status by recognising the importance of rational and emotional arguments for their concerns. The lecture is to be understood as a historical retrospective from which illuminating aspects for the present can be gained.
